Shamus Adopted 2008

Senior: 9?
Neutered
Liver-White
Housetrained
Neutered

Shamus was in the shelter in Brookings for a long time, but hooray, now Shamus is in Portland for foster care.

Shamus says, "I'm a very sweet and playful nine-year-old boy. I'm a bit overweight but I do enjoy exercise. I love to play in water and with other dogs. I have a great personality and I like car rides and walks on the beach. I'm a real fun companion. "

Lucky 2008 Adopted November 22, 2008

Age: 9 but spry
B/W
Neutered
Housetrained
Small for a Springer

Lucky wandered into the lives of the people who are now his foster folks. They are at their limit of dogs, but have this to say about Lucky:

This guy is really sweet, smart, well mannered, gets along well with our other 2 dogs. He walks well on a leash; we have been taking him on a 3 mile walk with the lab. The only problem when he gets back instead of lying on the cool linoleum he likes to stand in the pond and cool off. Likes the couch and has his own blanket/pillow to lie on and really like's HIS spot. He actually minds quite well for not being able to call him by his own name. Is starting to respond to Lucky but not very much.

FYI, our b/w girl started that light graying around the eyes at about 6 years old... she was entirely white-faced at 10 or 11. We'll try to figure out his age with the vet.

If you'd like this smallish, handsome b/w boy, please fill out an application.

Niles Adopted November 2008

2 years old
Neutered
Male
L/W
housebroken

Niles was brought to the Multnomah County Shelter, but did very poorly there. He was frightened by all the barking dogs and would not "sell" himself to the public. Rather, he hid in the back part of his kennel run. So, we've moved him into foster care.

Found as a stray in the Portland area, Niles is a two year old, neutered male. Vet check indicated that he has remarkably clean ears for a Springer. He seems to be in great health, very affectionate and cuddly. He likes to fetch a tennis ball.. Since he's still young he needs some obedience and leash training, but he's very responsive to attention.

He exhibited fear aggression in the shelter, and we think he would be happier as the only dog in a household. He's very protective of his people and would make an excellent watch dog. He behaves well for grooming (our groomer said if she didn't already have a dog, she'd like to take him home herself). Micro-chipped, de-fleaed, de-wormed, had a bath and a haircut.

Niles is so lucky! He found a great home in Northern California as an only dog and partner to his retired dad. He has a big house and a big yard and loads of tennis balls and wlks and cuddles and everything a sweet boy could ever wish for!

Cedric: Adopted 9/2008

Neutered
"Sprocker" mix
Black & White
34 lbs (small)
Adult:about 7 years old
Loves kids; chases cats

Cedric's family is battling some infirmaties that make them unable to care for him any longer. He origionally came from a foster agency in Vancouver, WA. He has always been cared for and loved. He is up to date with shots, and does need his ears cleaned regularly to prevent problems. He has no toddler experience, but loves kids, especially boys. He's been to obedience class.

Cedric settled into foster care and was pronounced a "great dog." He's doing fine with their other dogs but is chasing their cats.

Cedric was adopted by a family looking for a "Sprocker" so it was a perfect fit!

Pilot: Adopted 9/2008

Age: Around 18 months
Male

Liver-White
Housetrained
Medium sized.

Pilot has been taking a stab at Higher Education. He's been on campus at University of Portland and finally started going home with one of their staff, but that's not a place for him to stay. He is active when outside, very interested in small critters, and basically untrained, except that he is housebroken. Foster mom says he's either smart or did know some commands and just needed reminding. She's trying to get him used to walking on a leash.

Inside the house, Pilot settles down and is happiest when he has a person to love. Foster mom doesn't trust him to stay home alone, so he's been going to work with her. (He shows some separation anxiety). Despite plenty of tries at finding his owners, nothing has turned up anyone. So now he needs a forever home that can help him learn to be a good house-dog.

Pilot has been adopted by someone in the neighborhood who got to know him while he was in foster care.

Casey Adopted 9/2008

In Corvallis, Oregon
Neutered

Found in Gaston, Oregon
Adult: about 7 years old

Casey, black and white English Springer Spaniel, has a beautiful coat. He is about 7 years old, some hearing loss, sleeps well, but athletic and playful. Well mannered, house trained, gets along fine with other animals; dogs, cats, goats, and children. Found no identification on busy road in Gaston , OR , skinny and with an infected bite wound on side of face. All healed up now, neutered, de-flead and de-wormed, had several baths. Lookin’ good. Likes to be with people or other animals, not alone. Very sweet natured, holds still for grooming, and loves to be cuddled.

Please fill out an application if you are wanting a loving addition to your home! Or let Jan know you're interested in Casey if you already have an application.

Hank 2 Adopted 9/2008

6 years old
Neutered
Liver-White
Housetrained

Hank was taken to Oregon Humane Society by his life-long owneres who decided that they wanted to travel now that they've retired. Hanw was broken-heated, just hung out in the back of the kennel and wouldn't wag his tail at anybody. He came into foster care and immediately started feeling better.

Foster mom says " He is beyond adorable. sweet, sweet guy." He passed the tempearment test at OHS, so he should be good with people and other dogs. He found the greatest family to love him and be his forever home... they previously took in another boy who was dumped wit instructions to put him down; they gave that guy so much love! We're so glad Hank found them!

Lady Adopted 6/20/08

Sex: Female
Age: Senior: 8 years old

Lady was pulled from the Saving Grace animal shelter in Winchester, OR. She's been with her family all her life, and they didn't give any reason for bringing the dogs to the shelter. Lady is spayed, gets along with other dogs, and setted into her foster home in Hubbard, Oregon. She ignores the cats, does want to chase the pygmy goats, but prefers to just hang out on the couch. She loves people and is good with children, but is not playful.

Lady favors one hip, especially when she gets up from a nap. that many need some kind of care. She found a great home with a family in Astoria, OR. who are giving her a comfy home to hang out in.

I

B.J. Adopted 7/08

Senior: 7+
Neutered
L/W

BJ is an older, docile dog. The shelter vet cleaned his teeth and they look beautiful.

The Good News is:
BJ is fine with people and other dogs.

He is gentle taking treats and is smart and learned to sit quickly for lamb treats. He doesn't know how to play with a fuzzy toy or a ball, but is affectionate. He likes to be touched and follows his foster dad around the yard. He likes to go for a ride.
Being a stray, he does not respond to his name at all because it probably isn't even close to what the former one was.

BJ gets to go for walks and play on the beach at Fklorence, OR.

Mosie/Blossom Adopted 6/4

Needs to be spayed
L/W
3-4 years old

Blossom wasn't doing well in the Salem shelter so she went into foster care. She was having some minor health issues we wanted to check out, but we did tell several people who already had applications about her. There were two folks immediately interested, so we didn't ever put her on our web page or on Petfinder. The Vet told us her sneezing was a "rebound" effect of the kennel cough vaccine. Not a worry.

Mosie will be at home on acreage with other critters and a loving mom.

Macie Adopted 6/4

Spayed
B/W
4 years old

Macie has found a wonderful home with a great family: She says, I'm 4 years old with such a soft cuddly coat (which I enjoy having brushed) and am a very sweet girl.
I'm in a foster home now with 3 other female dogs and a cat and most of the time we all do very well together. We've had a few moments, mostly since I want to be the "queen" of the house, but they aren't serious - maybe I just need a boyfriend to hang out with?
I'm very interested in the cat and if she ran I might give chase. Hanging out close to my people is my favorite especially the foster dad. I also love to go for walks with a harness so I don't pull as much. I've tried to love and kiss anyone I've come in contact with and will "sit"- "shake (either paw)", come when called and will mind especially if there's a treat waiting and take them gently. They say I'm not food or dish possessive since we all eat fairly close and sit in a row to get treats. Did I mention I have learned to use both dog doors here - did that within a couple hours so they say I'm pretty smart. I am also crate trained and sleep there at night in the bedroom. I've also slept just beside the bed on the floor but since I tend to pace a little they feel I'm better in the crate. I'm not destructive and can be left alone out with two of the dogs for many hours and do fine. I don't play with toys - but like to wrestle on the floor but not too rough. My paperwork says I get car sick but didn't coming up here from Eugene and enjoy the ride - just thought I'd let you know.

James (mix?) Adopted Wednesday 5/7

Needs to be neutered
6-8 months old
Probably a mix
Good with dogs and cats
Probably good with kids

James and his brother Rudy ( below) were found wandering "in the country" outside of Lebanon, Oregon, by a kind family that already has multiple dogs. Neither has been neutered, both are very sweet, got along great with the Beagles on the property. They are joyful, playful, and both of them are usually smiling.

Rudy and James will need to be neutered, either by the adoptive family or before he goes home. As much as he looks like a Springer, we just don't see them solidly marked like Rudy. Whatever they are, there's loads of potential for a sweet family pet. He won't be very big; he should be easy to live with. Oh, James and Rudy both got baths and are even sweeter. James joined a family in the Salem area..

If you're interested in this boy, fill out an application and we'll get back to you. If you have an application, just email Jan at ariel@ariel-ess.com and I'll be in touch.

Rudy (mix) Adopted Monday 5/5

Needs to be neutered
6-8 months old
Probably a mix
Good with other dogs and cats
Probably good with kids

This little cutie was found wandering with his litter brother"in the country" outside of Lebanon, Oregon, by a kind family that already has multiple dogs. Neither has been neutered, both are very sweet, get along great with the Beagles on the property. As he is joyful, playful, and both of them are usually smiling.

Rudy helped his foster mom "flunk fostering." After he spent three days on her lap, it was no surprise that he was adopted and isn't going anywhere. He joins two Springers and one CAT.

If you're interested in this boy, fill out an application and we'll get back to you. If you have an application, just email Jan at ariel@ariel-ess.com and I'll be in touch.

Molly: Adopted 4/20

5-6 years
Spayed
Sweet and people oriented
Fine with other dogs
Unknown with toddlers and cats

Molly was found dumped around Baker Oregon. It looked like she'd been on her own for a long time; she was very dirty and very thin, but cleaned up nicely. She went into foster care in Bend, Oregon. She got along well with the other dogs, wants to be around people. She's housebroken. They treated an ear infection, but otherwise, she's healthy. She still needs to put on some weight.
Molly went to a family in Bend... she barely hit her foster home!

Delilah Adopted

Age: Between 6 and 8
Spayed
Housebroken
White and Liver markings
Probably field bred (longish tail)

Delilah's owners live in a mobile-home park and kept her outside under their house for the last two years. When they contacted us to help them find her a home, the weather was dipping into the low 20s. We asked them to turn her over to us, which they did.

Information is sketchy and mostly guess. They told us she was spayed, but she came into season as soon as we took her in. She was utterly filthy, but cleaned up well.

Daisy is one of the sweetest dogs we've ever met; she will steal your heart in an instant. She adores people. She'd make a cool therapy dog.

We noticed something "off" about the way she walks and had her evaluated by a Vet. He checked her out and feels that even though she has an unusual walk, she's in the pink of health and her walk will not cause any problems.

Delilah's foster family "failed fostering" and adopted her. She gets to live inside now! What a good girl!

Stevie Adopted

Show bred
Age: Senior, about 10 years old
Neutered

Stevie was bred by a highly respected show-breeder on the east coast. His owners used to show but were in failing health. His human papa died in December, and his human mama was found dead a few weeks later. An Oregon breeder of his friend, CeCe (below) cleaned him up and fostered him for several months.

Stevie is handsome, sweet, and happy. He wants to be with his people and will whine if he's inside and can't get to someone outside. He likes rides in the car, and he'd love to learn to play. He's a great cuddler.

We all hoped that he could go to a forever home with his partner CeCe... and guess what! They are happy to be living in Bend, Oregon, together.

CeCe Adopted

Age: 9 years
Female
Spayed

CeCe is Stevie's "partner." CeCe was bred by a respected show-breeder in Oregon. His owners used to show but were in failing health. Their human papa died in December, and their human mama was found dead a few weeks later.. CeCe's breeder, as well as another breeder in Oregon, helped CeCe through both her spay surgery and a double masectomy that didn't heal easily. But when she finally got better (and left her stitches alone, she and Stevie went together to their new home in Bend, Oregon. They got to take over the house, and they go for rides and play with their new mom and dad. There is some justice for good doggies!

Winston

Male
About two years old
Housebroken

Friendly and sweet

Winston helped Ernie and Linda "flunk fostering" as his foster home became hisforever home. Oh, well, almost all our fosters have "flunked" at least once.

Winston is a young male (under 3 years for sure, maybe as young as a year). Luckily, his family says:

Winston is a a terrific dog. He is very loving and doesn't bark. He sits and lies down on command and doesn't beg at the table. We bathed him at a "pup scrub" facility and he didn't mind at all except that the dryer scared him a little. He is pretty good on the leash but pulls when he gets excited over birds and squirrels . When he comes in contact with other dogs he is NOT aggresive, just sniffs and would like to play with them. We haven't seen any cats so we don't know if he would have any issues there.

Winston loves being close and snuggles but he not a licker. He is very people oriented. We haven't left him alone yet but when I went out into the garage for a couple minutes, I could hear him whining. He rides beautifully in the car, lies down and seems very contented.

We're pleased for the people and the dog. Ernie could hardly contain his excitement talking about their sweet boy at the annual dinner!
