Spencer

ADOPTED! July 2005

Spencer is a healthy and active boy who has just matured from puppy to adult this past year but still has a lot of puppy energy in him because he never gets regular walks anymore. He's looking for a companion or family who will take him for walk everyday, and possibly even duck hunting once in awhile. He'll adapt fine to a life without waterfowl if you give me him lots of other distractions, and is just as likely to climb up on your lap to snuggle if you let him. He's hungry for love and attention. He's had some training, knows his commands. He's very excitable and he'll need some time to adjust to his new home. He's curious about cats but not particularly interested. More than anything he wants to be in a family that is active and will let him be a part of their lives.

Sebastian

ADOPTED! June 2005

Sebastian is a 10 year old neutered male whose owner has had to go into a nursing home. Aside from general care issues (which have been somewhat neglected due to his owner's ill health) he is fine, has good energy, gets along with other dogs. Here's what his foster dad says:
His true sweet heart is coming out. He's not pacing and whining much anymore, and has taken to snuggling with me on the couch (like a Springer should). Eating and drinking and pottying is all back to normal. He's very kissy - his favorite is the "drive-by licks" where he makes circles aroung my coffee table and licks my knee and\or elbow on each pass. Definitely goofy.
Health issues are minor. His ears are getting needed attention and he has some fatty tumors which are not bothering him and have no alarming features. His teeth need some attention too, but that's true of almost every dog.

Arlo

Arlo was at the Clackamas County shelter. He's a sweet boy. Good with other dogs, chases cats, good in the car, likes to sing (I bet the shelter named him for Arlo Guthrie.) Foster mom left him in the back yard with her dogs and went to the store. He was fine.
Arlo is a skinny guy - skin a little flakey on his rump - but we think good food and a moisturizing bath will take care of that. Eyes are a little red - maybe from chemicals at the shelter. No lumps, bumps, etc.
Foster mom says: He's a prince of a guy. This is his third day with me and he's doing great. Stays in the yard, doesn't dig, likes attention but isn't pushy about it. He continues to do fine with my dogs. He's housebroken. He takes food nicely. He is energetic and enthused, but settles very easily. Someone is going to get a very good dog in Arlo.
Shelter listed him as between 7 & 9 years old.
His new mom says that he and her dog Red have settled together like long-time partners. Looks like a great match!

Rabbit

Adopted!

  • Age = 2 years 3 months old
  • Gender = Male
  • Color = Liver/White
  • Variety = Field Bred

    Weight = 50 pounds

Rabbit is a beautful little boy with lots of energy. He comes from a good field bloodline and while he has never hunted, he was evaluted for hunting abilities and the evaluator said he had very good hunting instincts (just needs the formal training now). He has been through general obedience classes and loves to ride in cars. However he is not good with kids. His current mom & dad have a new baby and despite working with a behaviorist they have not been able to get him past his problems with kids. So he needed to go to a home with no children. Aside from that he's a great dog. He is current on his vaccinations, is neutered, crate trained and has no known health issues. He is extremely loving, affectionate and friendly with adults. He responds well to commands and has found an active home that can keep up with him.

Loosy

Adopted

Loosy was found on a logging road in the Oregon Coast Range up behind Grande Ronde (Spirit Mountain). She's young, probably under two years old, field bred, energetic, good with dogs and people. OK with cats.
Loosy was in heat when found, so she was spayed before going on to a permanent home. We five good applications from people nterested, so it was very hard to figure out which home would be best for her.

Reggie

Adopted

This is a such sweet little girl! we're guessing her age to be around 8 or 9, but you'd think she was closer to 4 or 5 with the amount of spunk she's got. Her foster mom says she's just an amazing little dog with tons of personality who LOVES to be around people. She wasn't treated like the queen she is before she found her way in Springer Resuce, but she's now being pampered by her foster mom and is blossoming into an absolutely gorgeous dog. Now she's not pink anymore and actually has a beautiful, silky coat! Yippee!

Check out Reggie's "Special Needs" page for full story and for and more pics!

Jake

Adopted January 2005

This is "Rosie's buddy" - this guy and Rosie were found wandering together and ended up in jail (the Multnomah County Shelter). They were stressed out in the shelter, so we brought them into foster care and they are both doing much better now. Jake is a great guy - very sweet, minds well and is eager to please. He's an energetic guy, so he'll definitely need lots of exercise. He's also a big boy - not overweight, just a good sized guy (probably 60 pounds). He's left the cats alone at his current foster home, but he's definitely interested in the goats & donkeys there!

His foster mom says he's super sweet and is going to make someone very lucky to be his new best friend!

Felix

Adopted January 2005

Felix is a sweet liver & white Springer. His owners brought him to their vet, along with two older, smaller dogs, to be put to sleep. Luckily the vet decided that it was ridiculous to put such a great dog down for a minor and very treatable skin problem. So the vet and the techs at the hospital (the real heroes here) went to work on his fleas and skin, then called us.
When Felix first came to us he had a skin problem probably caused by a severe flea infestation that had gone untreated by his previous owners. Luckily he's being treated now and is doing so much better. The consensus on his age is that he was about 6 or 7 when he came to us. His teeth are in good shape and this guy has a great personality. Felix is an incredibly mellow boy who is just full of spunk and so happy!
Felix went from being ignored and treated like a "yard dog" to a beautiful life in Portland. He grew hair all over his body, and is one of the dearest boys ever!

Morgan

Adopted January 2005

Morgan was in a temporary foster home in Spokane and was transported down to a foster home in Portland. This little girl heartlessly was dropped off at the Spokane Shelter by her previous owners because they got a new house. A woman from Airdale rescue was pulling a dog from the Spokane shelter and decided to help Morgan too. Morgan is special because she only has one eye, but is still full of life. She found a forever home very quickly!

YOGI

Adopted February 2005

Dog
English Springer Spaniel

Size: Medium
Age: Young
Sex: Male
Name: Yogi

Yogi is a sweet young boy who was surrendered by his owner who is off to Iraq. The one very special thing about Yogi....he is completely blind. But this doesn't seem to slow him down. He's loving and playful and gets along with all other pets and humans, however, due to to his blindness, he should probably be in a home with no small children. He has a beautiful smooth liver & white coat and loves to cuddle.
His foster family "failed fostering", adopted Yogi forever, and he has had his glaucoma-eyes removed, so he is no longer in pain. He just looks beautiful now!

Check out his "special needs" page for more information on him and how to help cover the eye surgery he needed.

Yogi's owner is in Iraq.

Teemu

- Adopted February 2005

Temmu is a very sweet dog. He loves attention and has a little separation anxiety. He's had some obedience training and doesn't chase cats. He's done really well with kids (older than 8).

November 10, 2004

Freeli

Adopted 2005

Freelie came to OSR via the Bonnie Hays Shelter in Hillsboro as a wanderer. We don't have any other backstory on this pooch, but he's irresistible. He connected with both the mom and dad in his foster home. He doesn't mess with cats. He isn't needy. Isn't aggressive toward other dogs. And seems to be just fine with kids. He loves cuddling and petting and going for walks. We're guessing he's about 7-8 years-old. He's ears are in good shape. He's a little on the heavy side (need an exercise buddy?) and his hair is a little coarse and thin on the top of his backend but full and deep in the front. Nothing that a good diet, some regular exercise and some TLC won't take care of. He seems to know commands, but is reluctant to do them, typical of dogs who've lost their original families.
