Bailey

June 2004

Bailey is a 4 1/2year old b/w spayed female. She is well-bred and registered. She is healthy and has obedience training. She loves to be held and is very smart. She plays frisbee and loves to run on the beach and chase birds. She rides happily in the car and can play well with other dogs, especially off-leash.

Bailey has never had an aggressive incident with a person, but because she hasn't been around kids, she went to a family where she lives with adults. She goes for walks, plays in the yard, and enjoys being the center of attention.

Rusty

May 2004

Rusty is a very young guy (under 18 months) whose original owner tried to place him in a home when he was about a year old. She had several people interested, and made her choice based on "first come." Well, that family was NOT right for him. He only lasted a couple of months before being turned in to a shelter. This time, the RIGHT family (who had tried to adopt him months earlier) found him in foster care with us. So now Rusty is home where he belongs. He's a good guy, and now he has his own boy to train!

Montgomery/Andy

2004

"I have some photos of Montgomery (formerly Andy) in his new home with his brother and sisters. I've attached them for you if you'd like to post it on the website for "happy endings"
Here's a little bit about how Montgomery spends his day:

"He greets me reliably at the bottom of the steps in the morning to get his morning pats. He spends the day outside with the rest of the crew for a long, hard day of bird chasing, mole hunting and dog races in our fenced (!) acreage. After about an hour of running, the other four crap out but "Gummi Bear" just keeps going, and going, and going, and going.... He's such a nutcase! He can be lulled to a stop only with a hug, or chin or belly rub, otherwise forget it. He's got too much stuff to do! He loves the creek and if he isn't sufficiently wet, he'll make a special trip to the creek to make sure his paws and belly are good and soaked. Right before bed, he waits for his goodnight hug and then he crashes hard on whichever doggie-bed is available. He's really a crack up. He's such a happy dog and I'm glad he's with us.

Thanks!"

Tucker

2004

Tucker is an 18 month old neutered male ESS. He was pulled from the shelter in Chehalis WA. He is small and somewhat stocky, black and white, with a long tail. He is housebroken, utd with shots except for rabies, and has been on a flea preventative.

Tucker is a character who makes you laugh. There is no aggression whatsoever in this guy. He is great with dogs, cats and would be wonderful with kids. He is still a puppy in many ways. He could use some work on come and on walking on-lead, but is responsive and very affectionate. His new family says:

Well this is sure a treat to get to write you and tell you how thrilled we are with Tucker... He fit in our household like a glove and my husband that had been a hard sell on getting another dog,,,,well he and Tucker are two peas in a pod and Tucker has him wrapped around his finger, big time. He is a beautiful dog and what a great personality.. well behaved and wants to please, he is as perfect as he can be!

Koda

2004

Springer Mix

Koda (short for Kodiak) is a sweet, spayed 6 month old Lab/Springer cross. She is healthy and very, very sweet. She's housebroken, comes nicely when called, and is working hard to conquer puppy mouthing and jumping up. She's also perfecting "come" and "stay," which is typical for a youngster. She is a quick learner, and has mastered sit and down.

Koda is a little young yet to trust to roam free in the house. She is fine in her crate up to about 4 hours (except she's fine all night). She'd rather be where she can see the family or anything going on. She always goes in her kennel with her Teddy which she has had since six weeks of age.

Koda is very friendly with kids, dogs, and cats. She's pretty "birdie" so should probably not be a home with birds. She is cuddly and follows the family from room to room. She would rather be in the house unless the family is outside too. She plays chase with the kids and the cat.

Her new family has another dog, a neat boy to play with, and a fenced yard!

Andy

2004

Andy is a young (1 to 1 1/2 year old) neutered male we pulled from the Multnomah County shelter. While he hasn't got much training, he has a lot of zip and ambition. He chases the cats, but is sweet and loveable. Housebroken. He's gentle and loves to cuddle.

Andy's foster family's found it really tough to give him up, he's such a sweet boy. His new dad has Springer experience and lots of time to help Andy become a wonderful, mature young man!

Shelby

2004

Shelby was pulled from the Multnomah County Animal Control shelter. The shelter made her very nervous and she was wary of potential adoptors. She's a young adult, spayed, and field bred (hunting) from the look of her. The tail is long.

Shelby is active, friendly with other dogs, not very big. NO CATS. Older kids would be fine, but she's too bouncy for young ones. Foster mom says she can *sparkle* and we already know she has a great smile.

Update: Shelby is doing great. She's a smart little girl and a great snuggler.

Rowdy

2004

Rowdy is a field bred 3 year old l/w neutered male. He is housebroken and very good in the house. He prefers to be inside when his owners are at work. He is good with OLDER kids, but may "bulldoze" a toddler. Knows basic commands and walks well on a Gentle Leader (head collar).

Owner says: "Charming, impulsive, very playful, funny, great sense of humor. Likes to chase bugs, always on the move when outside, able to calm down nicely inside. Good bite inhibition, very focused on people. OK with other dogs, but pushy: will do guard of food and toys."

No cat experience, but has a high prey drive.

Holly

April, 2004

Holly is a much-loved family pet whose family fell apart. She had been living in the yard of her foreclosed home with a Malamute buddy who went to his new home first, so Mom realized it was time to find Holly a new home too. Holly is three years old, spayed, good with kids, other dogs, and though she does chase cats, it's just 'cause they run.

In foster care, she re-learned her house manners and got ready to be adopted. There were five families with applications; she joined Per and Annika and their parents. She wanted some kids to raise!

Hunter

Adopted! TWICE!

From Foster Care, then owner referral.

Hunter is a 6 year old, liver and white, quite large neutered boy. His owner could keep him where she lives, and he is a real treasure of a guy! Good with kids (history with young kids), great with other dogs, a very mellow dog.

He is from hunting lines but has not hunted. He loves to be close and snuggle, doesn't jump up, is OK outside; in fact he's pretty quiet. Takes treats very gently. He knows the basic commands (sit, down) and is an easy guy to be around. He probably weighs 55 lbs. but at about 23" he's a tall boy

His new family was so glad to get such a reliable guy to help raise their three-year-old son! But family problems meant Hunter needed yet another home, and he has found another family with kids to raise... didn't even make it on the website, his placement was so fast!

Adopted 3/29 and September, 2004

Clark

Adopted 2004

From Foster Care

Clark is a young neutered black and white male who was pulled from a shelter in WA state because they said he had an injured paw. But he's been checked out by the vet and is just fine.

Clark is good with people and other dogs. He is playful and energetic, but he can settle down easily. Since we don't have his history, we don't know how he is with kids, but he has shown no sign of aggression or bad behavior in the weeks he's been with his foster family. He's too bouncy for a toddler.

Clark went home to his new mom in March, 2004.

Owner Release to foster care

Cody

3/7

Senior Dog

Cody was released to rescue by his owner who has had him since he was a puppy. He is twelve years old, strong and healthy, loves people, other dogs, good with kids. Pulls STRONGLY on lead, so could use some training.

He's a little hard of hearing. He LOVES to go for a ride, loves to play, and is "spunky." Housebroken. Not neutered, and even though that's usually required by rescue, we've decided that it's too risky for a dog of his age.

Cody found a wonderful home to give him comfort in his senior years! He will be 13 in April. He's a very good boy!

Bonnie

3/7

Bonnie was a stray that we pulled from the Linn County OR Animal Shelter on February 11. She has been a good girl at her foster home. A haircut and bath have made her into a pretty l/w girl. We guess her age to be 5 or 6.

She's spayed, friendly, OK with other dogs. Ignores the cats. She's unhappy in a crate but fine if she's out. Loves her teen foster "brother" and is fine with the Doxie.

She had an injury to the cornia on her eye which was repaired; The injury was causing her pain and discomfort. She had growled when approached on the painful side, but so far those have been appropriate warnings.

Bonnie's new family says she's the best dog they've ever had. She is doing wonderfully!

Holly

2004

Holly

is a 9 1/2 month old l/w/f who spent some time in foster care with us. She was brought to the Salem, OR shelter after spending several months living with hogs... the oinky kind. However, her house manners are great and the smell washed off. She is smart and willing to please, very affectionate.

Holly has gone to live with one of our foster moms and her rescue boy, Nathanial Spaniel (Natey to his friends). She's very happy in her new home in West Linn, OR.

Odie

2004

Odieis a 2-3 year old neutered male, l/w, with lots of energy. He is good with people and somewhat dominant over other dogs... he gets along fine if they don't want to be the boss too. His new family is willing to train and be consistant with him.

His foster mom said: "He is a very sweet guy. Loves to be close to his human, would like to be on the furniture, but restrains himself and makes do with front paws and head on a lap. Is very good at food time. Takes cookies (and meds) well. Likes to play hard, but settles well. Sleeps through the night - I haven't had to crate him, he just finds a spot and curls up at bedtime. Odie likes to be up on the picnic table on the back porch, watching what's going on in the house... I've heard him bark, but it's not an issue. He puts up a howl when put in the kennel (whether or not the other dog is with him). But it only lasts a short time, then he seems to settle. He's a curious guy and likes to countersurf, but not to the point of being a pest."

Odie joined his new family in February. They live in Hood River, OR. They plan to keep him busy.

Buster

Buster is a senior with tons of personality who just loves life. After being sprung from the SW Washington shelter, this small b/w neutered boy was thrilled just to be goin' for a walk... he did little leaps of joy as we cruised the neighborhood, tail going miles a minute!.

The shelter wondered if he's a mix. We think that's because they hadn't seen a dog with black on only one side of his head, but that is not uncommon in ESS. If anything says mix, it's his 32 lb. weight. Otherwise, he's all Springer.

Buster helped make his new owner's last months happy. Now he lives with Joe's godchildren, who were Joe's caregivers.

Nellie

2004

Nellie is a l/w female who was pulled from the Linn County OR Animal Shelter on February 18 and was parked over night at the vet on her way to her foster home. The family that adopted her had waited for the right dog since October! They picked her up before she ever got to her foster mom.

Nellie is in good physical and mental shape. Her coat is neat and she is healthy. She has made it very clear to her family that her REAL name is Freckles; she ignored everything else they tried but paid attention when they used that name! She now lives in Lebanon, OR.
